Hiking

Every summer, people look forward to spending more time outdoors, soaking up the sun and enjoying nature. While spending time in the great outdoors is good for your mental and physical well-being, it’s important to remember to take care of your body while doing so. Our team at Silverdale Chiropractic Health & Injury Center wants to help you avoid injury. Here are five tips to help you stay healthy while enjoying the outdoors this summer:

1. Stay Hydrated

The hot summer sun can quickly lead to dehydration, which can cause a host of health issues. Be sure to drink plenty of water before, during, and after any outdoor activities. If you plan on being outside for an extended period of time, bring a water bottle with you and refill it as needed. You may also want to consider bringing an electrolyte drink to replenish lost nutrients.

2. Protect Your Skin

The sun’s UV rays can be harmful to your skin, causing sunburn and increasing your risk of skin cancer. Always wear sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 and reapply it every two hours or after swimming or sweating. You should also wear protective clothing, such as a hat and sunglasses, to shield your face and eyes from the sun.

3. Take Breaks in the Shade

Spending too much time in the sun can lead to heat exhaustion or heat stroke, which can be life-threatening. Take breaks in the shade or indoors to cool down and rest your body. If you’re feeling overheated, wet a towel with cool water and place it on your neck or head to help bring down your body temperature.

4. Wear Proper Footwear

Whether you’re hiking, walking, or playing sports outdoors, wearing proper footwear is essential for preventing injuries. Make sure your shoes fit well and provide adequate support for your feet and ankles. If you’re hiking, choose shoes with good traction to help prevent slips and falls.

5. See a Chiropractor for Regular Adjustments

Regular chiropractic adjustments can help keep your body functioning at its best and prevent injuries from occurring. Our chiropractors can help with issues such as back pain, neck pain, and headaches, as well as joint and muscle injuries with a thorough examination and personally tailored treatments. We can also recommend stretches that match your chosen activity.

Chiropractic care can also help with recovery from injuries. If you suffer an injury while enjoying the outdoors, seeing a chiropractor can help you recover more quickly and get back to your normal activities. Chiropractic adjustments can help reduce pain, inflammation, and stiffness, allowing your body to heal naturally.
